Be a DIY star! Make your own galaxy dress

Sometimes, you see something — an outfit or a purse or a pair of shoes — that is so completely you, you immediately want to go buy it.

Take heart: You’re not the only one with champagne taste and a beer budget.

When a self-described “space dork” — as well as the third cousin of astronaut Gus Grissom, the second American to fly in space — saw fashion designer Christopher Kane’s galaxy dress, she fell in love with it instantly. (At right, see actress Rosamund Pike wearing one version of the dress.)

But since the aforementioned space geek was Stacie of Stars for Streetlights, she knew better than to even think about buying the dress, and instead decided to make her very own crafty DIY version, as featured below.

The results were stellar — and she didn’t have to spend an astronomical amount.
